What is Kari’s Law for Texas 911 Calls?

Knowing the answer to “What is Kari’s Law” is no longer a legal question but rather a matter of fact. Is your business compliant with this September 1, 2016 new law?

What is Karis Law? Am I compliant?

Kari’s Law (Senate Bill 788) was signed into effect on May 15, 2015 by Texas Governor, Greg Abbott. Compliance date for this law was September 1, 2016.

This law was enacted as the result of Kari Hunt being murdered in a motel room in Texas. Ms. Hunt’s 9-year-old daughter tried to call 9-1-1 for help four times from the motel room phone, but the call never went through because she did not know to first dial “9” for an outbound line before dialing “9-1-1.”

This tragedy has brought about the positive change that any Texas business with multiple lines should be able to direct dial a “911” call. You should check with your telephone system installer and provider at once to find out if you are compliant.

Metro-Tel will be happy to assist your business in implementing the steps necessary for you to be legally compliant with Kari’s 911 Law.
